Little Victory

Little Victory-by Chickenbone Slim-Copyright 2020
Who doesn’t like a sunny day?
a helping hand to lead the way
a home cooked meal
just like your mom used to make?
What’s sweeter than a pretty girl’s smile
A muscle car on the miracle mile
If I could lift my head
I could appreciate
Evil spirits and conspiracies
The machinations of my enemies
holding back the hordes
a long slow steady retreat-I need a little victory
They never took the blood from the sport
they take their pound when you up short
Drifting further back
falling further behind
They knocked me out and tanned my hide
the hole I’m in is deep and wide
The birds of carrion land
they like to take their time
Lost momentum when I dropped a gear
eyes are wide a healthy dose of fear
bombs dropping all around me
Don’t make me concede-I need a little victory
Through the glass it looks so neat
couldn’t wait to see me bleed
slow motion fail
your eyes are glued to the screen
Can’t toss a towel to stop this fight
won’t go wrong by doing right
a change in circumstance
is what I really need
Evil spirits or conspiracies
The machinations of my enemies
Holding back the hordes, a long slow
steady retreat-I need a little victory
